The East Malaysian state of Sabah, located on the northern part of the island of Borneo, has undergone major developments to become a major MICE destination in Asia.
Through promotions by both the national and state government Sabah’s has improved its infrastructure relating to transport, hotels and convention facilities now featuring some one of the best incentive trips choices available.
Currently there is a new Sabah International Convention Complex being built to cater for the growth in corporate MICE business in the region alongside its natural attractions of the countryside and wildlife.

Sabah’s main international airport is located near to Kota Kinabalu. Major regional airlines from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong all offer regular direct flight services from their respective capitals.
In addition, low cost carrier Air Asia is now servicing the Malaysian routes from KL along with the additions of Asiana from Seoul South Korea with MAS wings providing the rural links to airports around the island. With its development as a popular MICE destination, more flights are being added regularly.
Weather in Sabah
The climate in Sabah is very varied and seasonal. The Northeastern Monsoon occurs from November until January bringing stormy weather and rainfall.
February to April offers the best weather in the region, becoming relatively dry as a result of dry winds coming from the Pacific Ocean. The typhoon season that heads towards the Philippines does not affect Sabah due to its southern location hence the local naming of ‘Land below the Wind’. Therefore Sabah is a good choice for your Incentive trip for most of the year.
What to do?
Sabah offers plenty for you to explore during your MICE event to the region. Known for its national parks, mountains, exotic wildlife and superb scuba diving, there is plenty for you to choose, if you have the time of course.
Make sure you fit in at least one activity on your corporate visit, to see a piece of traditional Borneo. The Sepilok orang-utang sanctuary and the Proboscis monkeys are two of Sabah’s most visited sights.
