Team Building with Aleenta in Phuket
Team Building with Aleenta - December 15th 2011, Phuket
Aleenta Takes a DiSC Team Assessment and Treasure Hunt Team Building Event
Aleenta is a small luxury hotel situated just north of Phuket island. Making Teams was asked to conduct a team building day for the executive management, specifically looking at team roles, individual strengths and weaknesses and cooperation and synergy within the team.
We decided to do a DiSC team behavioural analysis to evaluate the team members, so the DiSC questionnaire was sent to all the participants before the event. By analysing these results, we designated roles to each member for the days activity, which was to be our famous Cultural Treasure Hunt Race around Phuket.
The DiSC profile analysis
The day of the event started in the conference room at 8 am. Making Teams prepared a short presentation on the results of the DiSC personality assessment. We separated the team members by their style types, and looked at the preferred working styles and traits of each person. We also mentioned how they might improve their inter-team relationships and their internal and external profile types, with the focus on people's working styles under pressure. At the end of the presentation when everyone had learnt about their colleagues and themselves a little more, we assigned the tam roles for the days event.
The Race Around Phuket
Since we had only one team for the event, we set them a challenge of reaching 125 points by the end of the day. We had given them 10 locations to find, spread out around Phuket, each one with a fiendish question to answer. And of course, the clues were not easy and it was also a race against time!
In addition, they had 10 treasure items to find during their travels, and 10 picture challenges to creatively interpret and capture by the end.
The teams left the hotel at around 9 am for the race, and their goal was to be back by 5 pm. The destinations included several temples, view points, historical landmarks and cultural wonders. The clues as always were cryptic and part of the difficulty, and the challenge at each place often revolved around solving a tricky problem.
Each person had a different role within the team, such as time-keeper, creative director, navigator, leader, problem solver and planner.
The Race Results
The team did very well, and much to our surprise managed to find all but one of our hidden locations, and also kept their time well, arriving back as planned.
The treasure items were mostly found, and in the end the team just managed to hit their target of 125, which was a great achievement.
The day ended up with group dinner on the beach, and everyone agreed they had spent a great day looking at their team dynamic and also having a lot of fun!
