Adventure Team Building
The senior management from Publicis Francais came to Thailand on a familiarisation and incentive trip to assess the suitability of Renaissance and Making Teams as a DMC, and to take part in some of our team building sessions.
Publicis stayed for three days from the 23rd to the 25th June at Renaissance Resort and Spa, Koh Samui. Their corporate incentive package included:
- Presentation by Making Teams regarding our experiential team building exercises
- The amazing race island treasure hunt
- The Making Teams photographic challenge
- Thai cooking competition and instruction
- Yoga activities
The treasure hunt negotiation race
As part of the Amazing Race, teams bargain for hard to find traditional items in the local markets. The first stop was the market at Hin Ta Hin Yai, where the delegates looked for shadow puppets and traditional Thai demon masks.
The negotiation section of the race requires that teams plan their efforts and delegate effectively, as well as plan and stick to a budget and of course negotiate effectively with suppliers, from the point of view of a customer. These win win negotiation skills are vital in the workplace and have an immediate real world application.
The Photo Challenge
Temples, Gods and Buddhas
In these two sets of pictures from the actual photographic challenge, the teams are at two of the many beautiful temples Samui has to offer. Each one provides a cryptic riffle to solve, after the teams have located it on the map. But one of the most popular aspects of the Amazing Race is the equally cryptic photo challenge where teams have to interpret a creative instruction laid down by the game.
Using the innovative talents of the team is crucial, and this creative and artistic challenge uses totally different skills than the organisation, planning and time keeping issues set by the rest of the race. The photographic challenge mimics the creation of a new product or process that may be demanded by the business internally, or externally by a customer.
By having a range of skills utilised in the challenges, the Amazing Race is an event that tests everybody and uses the skill sets of a wide range of people and team resources.
Where the Buffaloes Roam
Another typically Southern Thai tradition is buffalo fighting. One of our clues takes contestants to the ring to see the buffaloes as they live between their exertions. There's a question and a photograph challenge here, and a chance to interact with some unusual locals.
The waterfall and a chance to meditate
This time visiting the inside of a temple and meeting the monks or using the time to make merit and light some incense. And close by is another stop, a 30 metre waterfall coming down from the mountains and a pool that's perfect for swimming.
